1st Ultrasound Results

We had our first ultrasound on Friday October 31st. I was really nervous going into it because in the past we have never gotten good news at an ultrasound. I was trying to be really optimistic though since I was having a really rough day of morning sickness.

The u/s tech that we had was amazing. She was really personable and made sure to explain what she was doing at each step. After only about 5 minutes she told us "That flicker up on the screen is your baby's heartbeat." It was so surreal to finally here those words. I did not get a great look at it but Bryan said it was a really awesome thing to see. The heart rate was 124 beats per minute which was right on target for the baby's gestational age of 6 weeks 3 days. Here is a pic of our little bean!!

After having the u/s we met with our OB. He was so happy for us and said it was an excellent sign that we saw the heartbeat this early. I talked to him about the flu shot and he highly recommended that I get it. I am not exactly looking forward to it, but if that is what is best for the baby I will follow his advice. I go back to meet with the nurse for paperwork and bloodwork on November 19th and then I have my first prenatal appointment on December 8th.

My symptoms continue to be pretty normal. I can go from extremely nauseous to extremely hungry in the space of a minute. Actually sometimes it is mix of both :) I have this nasty cold right now that won't go away which is a bummer. It is hard to fight off a cold when you can't really take anything for it.

Thanks for reading about the progress of the baby. It is nice to have a way to share this joy with our family and friends :)

June is going to be a great month!

On Sunday October 12th I woke up to one of the best sights I had ever seen. Here is what I saw:

Yes that is right, we got a BFP!!! That's a Big Fat Positive for those not up on TTC (Trying to Conceive) lingo ;) We are very happy and excited to be due on June 23rd, 2009. It is hard to not be scared or nervous after our three previous losses though. We were lucky enough to conceive on our the first cycle we tried Femara. It is a drug that is most commonly used for breast cancer but also helps with ovulation. I felt so much better while taking it then when I used Clomid for four cycles earlier this year. It was great to not deal with hot flashes or the horrible depression I got from Clomid.

This past week I had my HCG and Progesterone levels checked. On Monday my HCG was 114 and my progesterone was 37.5. We were really happy with these numbers because they were much higher at this time in pregnancy then with our previous losses. On Wednesday I had my HCG checked again and it was 402!!!! That is also great because it means that not only did the levels double but they tripled in 48 hours time. Now we just have to wait until October 31st for our first ultrasound. The baby will be 6 weeks 2days gestation at that time and we are really hoping to see a heartbeat on the ultrasound. We have never had a chance to hear that before and I think it will be a moving experience.

I have been feeling okay. No morning sickness yet. I get a little bit of nausea in the morning after I brush my teeth. It goes away if I take a few sips of pop though. I have been exhausted lately, it seems like I can never get enough sleep. Oh and I cannot forget my appetite. I am constantly hungry, I just never seem to be satisfied. I think that Bryan is getting a tad frustrated with that because it makes agreeing on dinner options difficult. I do have a cold right now too, which kind of sucks because I can't take anything good for it. I am hoping that I can combat it with rest, taking my vitamins, and drinking some orange juice.
